{pasture friends}
eet Muffin. She is one of my dear pasture friends. I believe that I am her dear friend as well. I’m pretty sure that I won her heart when the first notes of my ‘oh sweet baby cows, oh sweet baby cows’ song came out of my mouth. Muffin got my heart thumping {and my nerves pumping as well} when she came quickly trotting toward me on our first introduction to get the top of her head scratched- which also crowned her with the name Muffin Top; Muffin for short.
Being she didn’t have an ear tag with her name on it, Muffin just seemed to fit her and I’m pretty positive she approves and appreciates being given a name instead of simply calling her ‘cute red Devon cow’.
There were actually two cute red Devon cows without ear-tags. There seems to be a family resemblance of some kind, and so the name Mini Muffin was bestowed for the smaller Muffin-look-a-like. We, at Afton Field Farm, pride ourselves in our creative flare & keen observational skills, and this was no exception ;)
It is a great joy to be with all the ladies out in the field. Muffin tends to be a leader of the herd, so she and I often are the ones running the rest of the herd into the next paddock- one of us running with more ease than the other, and one with a little more angst than the other, but we both have a lot of fun and are successful at completing the task. Maybe a video of this activity should be debuted in the near future ;)

it’s an odd beef cow that comes up wanting to be scratched. She’s awfully cute though!
It is really odd- but I’m not complaining at all ;) There are even a few other cows that will get close enough to sniff my hand, but that’s it. I didn’t realize what an animal lover I truly am; and these cows really melt my heart!
So beautiful! (The cows and the photos!)
Thanks Ali! I love taking photos of the cows- and I think they like being in the spot light too ;)
Love the top photo!
I love that one too! It makes me laugh every time :)
You got a new camera, didn’t you? I love ALL of these photos. :)
Yep, I did get a new camera :) I’m loving it, but still need more time to learn and use all the amazing things it has to offer!
Awesome photos! Thanks for sharing!
