Afton Field Farm has been working hard this past Spring and Summer to bring our customers another way to enjoy our mouth watering products.

So Mr. Jones and me headed out one fine Thursday afternoon and headed up to the hipster-city itself, Portland, with a cooler full of chickens (don’t worry.  there were no chickens harmed in this process- they were frozen), business cards, information about our farm, and our city clothes.

We tromped through the Pearl District, the Park Blocks, and around Pioneer Square.  We were very surprised by the reaction of the chefs we talked to about supplying our products at their restaurants…

All of them said a big, loud, and enthusiastic Yes! And wondered if we could provide 60-80 chickens a week, an insane dozen of eggs each week, and whole beef, pork, or lamb a week.  We were shocked and amazed at the quantities as well as the enthusiasm.

We weren’t able to supply them all right now, but told them we will be in contact with them once our numbers are closer to their needs.

So, we chose some wonderful restaurants that were willing to work with us as we grow.

{Ned Ludd}

{Ned Ludd}

Ned Ludd Tavern is AMAZING!!! Not only are they some of the nicest and awesomest (new word) guys, their food is spectacular!!

They wood fire all of their food and prepare it right there in front of you.  It’s an amazing experience for all the senses.

{urban farmer}

Urban Farmer is a restaurant that definitely wins points on style.  The restaurant itself is divided into sections with a different feature- a wheat art display, a pantry full of preserved foods, sitting areas mimic your own at your house.  It’s great. And super hip.

The restaurant is located in the hotel the Nines on the 4th floor.  You walk out of the elevator, around the corner, and right into this super swank restaurant that is in the middle of an atrium.  Also, a fun experience- wear your heels :)

{soluna grill}

{soluna grill}

Soluna Grill is in the location of the former restaurant, Fife with chef Marco Shaw, that we previously supplied and that catered our wedding.

Soluna Grill is on NE Fremont Street and has a great atmosphere.  Check it out and see how the new restaurant is cooking up.

{sybaris}

{sybaris bistro}

Sybaris Bistro is located in Albany Oregon.  Matt is an innovative, courageous chef that practices what he preaches.

They change their menu monthly, so you definitely need to stop by multiple times (and especially this coming October when Afton Field Farm chicken is on the menu :) )

{big river}

{big river}

Our oldest restaurant that we have been supplying is Big River located in Corvallis on the waterfront.  We love working with them and excited about the things the executive chef, Connor, is doing there.

Other restaurants that we supply on occasion in Corvallis are:

magenta and  fireworks.

So don’t forget to ask about Afton Field Farm chicken and pork at the restaurants above. Helping support those restaurants helps support us too.

And when you go out to eat ask if that restaurant serves Afton Field Farm products.  If they don’t ask why they don’t and who they use as their meat provider, research and educate yourself on that farm. (Always educate yourself cause an educated consumer is a powerful motivator and persuasive consumer)  Then suggest they consider using Afton Field Farm to help support a young, local, sustainable, and awesome farm :)

    Good for you, getting your fresh, local food into local restaurants. I was interested in Sybaris Bistro since it’s close to home and eating there would fulfill the ‘local’ twice with your locally raised food.

    I’m not sure what you meant by the comment “Matt is an innovative, courageous chef that practices what he preaches.” I followed the link on Sybaris’ site to their newest endeavor and found that at their other restaurant they import their tomatoes from Italy. Implying they can’t get fine tomatoes in the Albany area and must import them is beyond belief.

    I’ll miss out on your chicken at Sybaris, but I could never justify spending my ‘dining out’ budget by knowingly supporting someone with this mind-set.
